I had to travel for like five hours for a job interview last month and didn’t have any unread books. New ones were being delivered later that day, so I just wanted a quick read for my journey. I don’t usually get Kindle books for my phone/iPad, but I decided it was worth it for that day. So I went and got End of Days by Susan Ee, it’s the conclusion to the Penryn & the end of Days trilogy by Susan Ee and it was very, very good!
“Everywhere we fly, people scatter below us. The see the great shadow of our swarm above them, and they run. We fly over a cityscape that has charred, broken, and mostly abandoned. San Fransisco used to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with its trolley cars and famous restaurants. Tourists used to strol Fisherman’s Wharf and cruise the crowded alleys of Chinatown. Now the grungy survivors fight for scraps and harass terrified woman.”
After escaping the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run, while also trying to find a doctor to help Raffe and Penryn’s sister Paige. But when they angels release an apocalyptic nightmare against the humans, they are at war.
I loved End of Days. But honestly, it wasn’t all that good. Not compared to Angefall, but then again, Angelfall was fantastic! I did like it a lot better than World After, though. It wasn’t because the writing was bad (because it really wasn’t!) and the plot was great, but I missed some OMG moments! I remember being so crazy positive about Angefall and I really expected this one to be better.
I don’t have much to say about the characters because I talked about them before, but I want to mention Dee and Dum. They used to creep me out. I don’t know why, honestly. I just imagined them being some kind of way and it creeped me out so much I didn’t like them. But somehow, I’ve completely changed my mind. I kinda love them now!
The big Angels vs Humans fight was pretty awesome. It was such a good part of the book! It wasn’t really an OMG moment to me, but it was so good! It was super suspenseful and I loved it. I’m still a little disappointed, though. The ending was alright, maybe even satisfying, but I just want more! The book/trilogy needed more, actually. The ending was kind of abrupt, which is pretty bad after three really great books.
My End of Days review can be found on Goodreads.
I really enjoyed End of Days, but the abrupt ending was really unnecessary! It deserves 4/5, though, because it’s still a really good book.
