Behind the Books: October

Behind the Books OctoberWhew… Can you believe it’s October already? Also, can you believe were halfway through the month? I woke up on Sunday morning thinking “Oh hey, I’m sure it’s like the fourteenth or something, let’s write my Behind the Books post!” But then I checked my phone and came to the shocking conclusion it was the sixteenth! If you’ve been following my blog, you know it’s quite dead-ish lately. Even my Twitter is dead! I’ll explain everything in this post!

The Blog

When I started my internship and life got crazy, I put my blog ‘on hold’. My wellbeing is so incredibly important to me, and living a crazy life while also managing a blog really wasn’t it for me. My original plan was to start working on it again when I was settled in my new home and to start publishing on October 1st. Somehow I still can’t really get used to working on my blog when I come home from internship at night, so I’ve barely done anything other than schedule and reschedule posts. I think the worst struggle was taking photos! When I went home to my mom during the weekends, I just couldn’t find the motivation to do a blog/Bookstagram shoot. Same goes for actually blogging…. It just really wasn’t working out. It’s also that time of year when I just get ill all the time. Not ill enough to actually be sick, but it’s more like being on the edge. It’s exhausting and I just really don’t want to push myself. I’m going to try and start blogging again, but only if I actually want to.

On a more positive note, I got some really great ideas for blog posts! And the ones I planned to publish in September and October are still being written, so I have so many awesome things to publish now! I can’t wait for you guys to read it.

A Personal Update

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I feel happier than ever! I sort of found my place in the world and I’m so happy doing my internship at a publisher! Can you even believe it?! I still can’t…. lol! There has not been a single day in which I felt bad about going to work. I wake up in a good mood and I go back to bed with a good mood. I can’t remember that ever happening in my life.

I haven’t been reading much, but that’s okay. I mean, I work with books and I’m surrounded by them every day! The few books I’ve read over the past few weeks are originally Dutch and I feel really happy about that! When I started my internship, I felt kinda bad about not reading Dutch, so this is an improvement!

Month/Month Book Haul

I was literally typing “I only got about one or two books” but then I was reminded that it’s actually a lie. I’ve gotten way more than just two! I don’t remember the order in which I got these in, but the books I got since my last Behind the Books are: Vermist by Helen Vreeswijk (Dutch), The 100 by Kass Morgan (Dutch edition, signed!), The Graces by Laure Eve (UK paperback edition, signed!), my hardcover copy of Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas was delivered and I got Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch! And today I actually got the Dutch edition of The Siren by Kiera Cass and I’m so excited because I LOVED the English audiobook!

Currently Reading

I’m currently in between books! I finished Mislukt by Iris Boter (an originally Dutch book) on Sunday morning and left This Savage Song by Victoria/V.E. Schwab in my room in the city, so I couldn’t really read much on Sunday. I’ve started listening to the audiobook of The Night Cirus by Erin Morgenstern, and I absolutely love it, but it’s just so long and I don’t have the patience! I put it back on my TBR today and hopefully I can get myself a physical copy sometime soon.

That’s it for this month’s Behind the Books! I hope you’ve been having a great October so far. I’m so sorry I don’t publish as regularly as I used to, but I’m hoping to get back to that soon!

Much love,
Ayla

  • Ayla! I’m so glad you’re feeling happy <3 Looking forward to your upcoming posts!

    • THANK YOU! And it’s so wonderful to hear that! <3

  • Iridescence

It makes me happy to read that you’re doing what you love and that you’re happy. Some people say that even though you love something, as a job, you get irritated by it. I mever believed that, and I love seeing people who are happy with what they’re doing. Looking forward to your posts!

    • Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that!

People who say they’re happy with what they’re doing and still get irritated, probably just think they’re happy even though they’re actually not. So far, thankfully, I haven’t experienced that! Of course there’s always the “less fun” or more difficult tasks, but I’ve never felt irritated! 🙂

  • I’m SO glad you’re feeling happy, because you deserve that, Ayla! <3
    You first and then blogging!

    • Thank you so much! <3
