I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in forever! Or actually, I’ve written them but I’ve just never published them… Oops! Anyway, We’re looking back at 2016 today with The Broke & The Bookish! Today’s all about the authors we read for the first time this year. Since I read more then ever this year, there’s a whole lot of new-to-me authors on the list!
Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read For The First Time In 2016
1. Sarah J. Maas
Sarah J. Maas is honestly one of my all-time favourite authors. Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses are my favourite series and I was so crazy about her books, I got them all in hardcover. Biggest expense of the year: book one to four in the Throne of Glass series! I bought them all at once and it was very pricey… But obviously very worth it!
2. Cassandra Clare
The reason I read such a crazy amount of books this year: Cassandra Clare, hehe! I was obsesses with the Shadowhunter Chronicles and read them all, from City of Bones to Lady Midnight. I cannot believe how I missed out on such a great series all these years! I’m all caught up now and very ready for the release of Lord of Shadows!
3. Maggie Stiefvater
The Raven Cycle is one of my favourite series I read this year. Honestly, I still kind of cannot stop thinking about it! Ah, it was soooooo good! I haven’t had a chance to check out Maggie’s other books, but I’m sure I’ll pick up something next year.
4. Susan Ee
Angelfall was the first book I read this year and the first one I reviewed! It might actually have been the start of Books & Babbles! I read the entire trilogy and it was really good!
5. Naomi Novik
Reading Uprooted was quite the challenge! It took me a looooong time to get through it, but Naomi Novik created a masterpiece!
6. Laure Eve
EEEEPPP!!! How could I forget Laure Eve?! She has a special place in my heart. When I started my internship, the first thing I did was announcing her events in the Netherlands on Facebook. The first manuscript I’ve ever read was The Graces! And to top that all, I saw her at the YALBal in Amsterdam and met her in Rotterdam the next day! She signed my UK paperback edition of The Graces, which made that my first signed book! (Together with The 100 by Kass Morgan).
7. Stephanie Garber
The English edition of Caraval doesn’t release until next year, but the Dutch edition is out right now and loved it so, so much! I’ll be reviewing it sometime soon, so stay turned for that! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, although I bet we’ll have to wait a while for the next book to come out, hehe!
8. J. K. Rowling
How terrible is it that J. K. Rowling is on this list? I mean, it’s 2016… TWENTY SIXTEEN! Of course I know about J. K. Rowling… I just never read any of her books until now! I read the first three Harry Potter books this year and I’m hoping to own the fourth one before the new year. Whether I’ll be able to read it before then it a whole different story… Haha!
9. Rainbow Rowell
One of the first books I read this year, was the Dutch edition of Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I got it during my job interview at the publisher I’m currently interning at. I’m still in shock about that, lol! (I literally walked away from the building calling my mom saying “MOM I JUST GOT A BOOK!”, it was quite hilarious…) I’m super interested in Fangirl and Eleanor & Park, so I might pick those up next year.
10. Amy Tintera
I literally only finished Ruined like two days ago, but oh my god! I loved it so much! Although I’m not sure whether or not I like Amy’s writing style, I do really love Ruined and I might even check out her Reboot duology…
