The Books & Babbles 2017 Reading Challenge

This year, I set my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 50 books, but I want to take it a little bit futher1It’s a brand new year, which means it’s time for a brand new reading challenge! Over the past two years, I did the challenge on Goodreads. This year, I’m taking it a bit further. I created a reading challenge to help myself read more than what I usually read. My reading challenge has seven categories andIf you’d like to join, or do a similar reading challenge, please do! Here’s my 2017 reading challenge.First of all, I made a page specifically for my reading challenge! Be sure to check it out every once in a while! I’ll update it as I finish reading books and (hopefully) complete the different categories.

15 New Releases

Some people might start to think “What? Why is this part of a challenge?” Well, my friends, I’ve been ‘catching up’ over the last year. Most of the books I’ve read were from before 2016. Sometimes that really annoyed me. While everyone was reviewing and talking about the latest books, I was still reading The Mortal Instruments and Harry Potter for the first time. I have an actual 2017 Releases TBR right now, and I’m planning on reading at least 15 of them!

5 Contemporaries

I’m sure only about three or four books I read last year were contemporary. THREE OR FOUR! That’s mad! I read like 70+ books! Although I absolutely love fantasy and dystopia, I want to read more than just that. That’s why one of my goals is to read at least 5 contemporaries! There’s three on my shelf already and I’m getting more and more interested in contemporary, so this will probably be a piece of (delicious) cake, hehe!

5 Graphic Novels

Sometime last year, I suddenly got really interested in graphic novels, and I started searching for fun ones. I found quite a few, but for some reason I never got them. It’s time to change that! I want to read at least 5 graphic novels. I’m almost definitely going to read The Legend of Zelda, The Infernal Devices and Orange!

3 Classics

This category/part of my reading challenge is probably the most interesting one. I want to read 3 classics. Or at least I want to try. I’ve never read one before, and it’s probably one of those “The hype made me do it!” things. I’m honestly interested in them. I ordered The Little Prince and The Beatrix Potter Collection Vol. 1 yesterday and I’m super curious. I ordered the Wordsworth Children’s Classics edition because they’re cute and it seems like a good idea to start with the “easier” classics. (Since they’re Children’s Classics.)

5 Finished Series

Honestly, I don’t know where this number came from. I don’t even think I’m able to finish 5 series! There’s Harry Potter and The Iron Fey… Other than that, I don’t think I have any series to finish. I’m currently reading a lot of still ongoing series, so I can’t really finish those! I decided a long time ago I’d stop reading The Vampire Diaries because I simply cannot stand it anymore. This part of my challenge might be, eh, a challenge, but even if I get to three, I’ll be content! Oh, and I just saw that Throne of Glass book six release in September! OMG! It’s coming to an end!

3 Recommendations

Okay, time for a confession: I’m shit when it comes to reading books people recommend to me.(Sorry for the language… hehe.) I’ll tell anyone who recommends me I’ll “check the book out” but in the end, I either forget, or I take a look on the book’s Goodreads page and leave it at that. I’m super picky when it comes to what I read, but I want to be less picky this year! I’ll be asking you guys for recs in the near future!

5 Dutch Books

I’m starting to think this number might be a bit low, but that’s okay! Last year I wrote a blogpost on why I don’t read Dutch, but I’ve actually started reading and buying Dutch books! (Yep, I made that buying bit bold because it started with just reading books from Best of YA and then went and bought a Dutch book from another publisher, lol!) Anyway, since I read so many English books, I don’t want to forget about the Dutch ones! I want to try and read at least on or two originally Dutch ones, but most of them will be translations.

That’s my reading challenge for 2017! I feel like it’s doable, but I’m still a little nervous about the entire thing. Last year, I started with a challenge of 25 books. In the end, I read 72! Since my life is probably going to change a lot this year, I have no clue how much time I’ll have to read. We’ll see how it goes, I guess! I’ll keep you guys updated.

How many books do you want to read this year? Are you participating in any challenges?
