The day has FINALLY come! Ahh, you guys… I wrote this review for A Court of Mist & Fury in August (nine freaking months ago!) and never published it. I’ve read both ACOTAR and ACOMAF twice now and I’m in the middle of ACOWAR! I. Am. Obsessed. I got a tote bag and art print of the “Stars who listen” quote and I even made a Night Court button at YALFest NL. Yeah, I’m obsessed. Anyway, here’s what I think of the masterpiece that’s called A Court of Mist & Fury!
“To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”
Alright. So, the ACTUAL reason I didn’t publish this review sooner is because I absolutely f-ed up the review. Like, it was so terribly long and fangirl-ish that I didn’t have the patience to edit it. But the thing is: Sarah J. Maas created a masterpiece in an amazing world filled with amazing characters and full off plot twists. I just cannot not talk about it, but at the same time I can’t find the words that do this book justice.
First of all: the characters. We got to know a whole bunch of new, incredible characters whom I all love very, very much. Usually when there’s lots of new people in a sequel, I don’t really like it or I’m annoyed by some of them. In this case, I just simply loved all of them. I literally love all of them. Not or two, or all but one, no. All of them. Feyre has developed so much as a character and we get to see Rhysand from a whole different perspective and I just love this guy so SO MUCH. The Inner Circle is my favourite thing ever. Their relationships with each other are so special and I love to be a part of a group like that.
The plot is absolutely incredible. I read this book sometime back in June last year (and then the Dutch one a few months later), and whenever I talk about it with anyone, I remember pretty much everything! Let me tell you something: that barely ever happens. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl was my favourite book for years and I must’ve read it five times, yet I barely remember anything. Not back then and certainly not now. The events in A Court of Mist & Fury are just… Man, most of the time I couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening… Holy moly!
Sarah J. Maas is one incredible author. She has a way with words I just can’t describe. I’d probably be a happy human just reading her to-do list… Seriously! She manages to put so much emotion in her books. I literally go through a whirlwind of emotions, from happy to sad to anxious to crazy. I cried so terribly near the end that I just had to put my book away and bawl my eyes out for a moment. The end just ripped me to shreds, I don’t remember ever crying over a book so badly! A Court of Mist & Fury had a massive cliffhanger, but at the same time I felt like it was wrapped up perfectly at the same time. I’m beyond excited for A Court of Wings & Ruin!
Holy Cauldron, I changed my usual ♡’s for ★ because I just want to give all the stars to ACOMAF! Pun intended, ha! That was horrible… Don’t worry, I know, lol! I don’t ever want this series to end!
About A Court of Mist & Fury
Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.
Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.
With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.
