Can you even believe it’s May and this is only my first Behind the Books in 2017?! It’s crazy! Outrageous! *hides in corner* I have so much to tell you guys! I had planned for this to go up a few days earlier, but unfortunately my health wouldn’t allow it. Since it’s been so long since I done a Behind the Books post, I’m only going to take about the past few weeks or so, what happened before that isn’t really important. Anyway, get nice and comfy with a nice big cup of tea (coffee’s fine too!) and enjoy!
First thing I just need to tell you guys is that I got my first ever ARC through Netgalley! I received Flame in the Mist by Reneé Ahdieh from Pinguin and I’m just so excited! This post is also the first review in my new format. I’ve changed things up a little since I now have time to really work on my blog again. This morning I’ve just been writing like crazy. I must’ve written about 5000 + words on about eight different posts, so I have a lot of editing to do! (And I’m not even counting this one, because this is only the editing! – Or more like rewriting… I’m a mess, ha!)
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do from being so terribly busy in the past nine months. I’ve found that reviewing is actually so difficult to me! I tried reviewing like two books and I’m so out of it that its not working out. My health isn’t helping much either. So writing and scheduling posts isn’t really working out. But it’s okay. It’ll get better eventually!
A Personal Update
Where do I even begin with this one?! First of all, I finished my internship at Uitgeverij Unieboek | Het Spectrum! *ugly sobbing* and I handed in all my exam work. *happy dance* YAY! Unfortunately, I’ve been feeling under the weather for quite a long while now and it keeps getting worse. Today’s a good day, but I could have an even worse day than before tomorrow… I’m in a terrible amount of pain in my head. It’s so bad that sometimes all I can do is cry and scream and panic. Please don’t feel sorry for me, I just wanted to let you know what’s going on and why blogging (and sometimes reading!) is difficult at the moment. Pain in your head is the absolute worst, trust me.
This whole thing has basically put everything my life on hold. I wanted to get my exam presentation done and exercise more and lose some weight, but most of the time I’m stuck in bed. As soon as I’m getting better, though, I have to find a job. I hope to apply for a job at a bookshop somewhere! I’m also trying to figure out what study I want to do next year, as I’m taking a gap year to figure stuff like that out. I’m looking at English studies right now, but it’s difficult because all I can find are studies to be an English teacher, which is absolutely something I do not want… Aaargh!
Let’s talk about something fun: I’m going to Amsterdam next week! YAY! I’ve been there only for concerts and events or to travel to the UK. I’ve never actually been to shops like Waterstones because I just haven’t had the time and plans were always cancelled. This time I’m definitely going and I can’t wait to explore the city and go to some shops I’ve been wanting to go to for years!
April/May Book Haul
I hauled such an outrageous amount of books from all kinds of places over the last few months, I don’t even remember which ones I got and when I got them! Here’s a list of those I can remember: Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. I got LoS 11 days before it’s release! I got The Heir and The Crown by Kiera Cass (both in hardcover – they were super cheap at Book Depository!) I also got the entire Seeker trilogy (plus some Dutch children’s books). AND I would ALMOST forget A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas!! OMG! There’s so many I’m forgetting right now, but I’m sure you’ll see them on my Instagram sometime!
I do remember getting a bunch of eBooks this month, though! I got an eARC for Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh, ACOWAR by Sarah J. Maas (because my preorder was delayed). Then I got some super cheap (€3 or less) ones: On The Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher, The Bone Witch by Run Chupeco and Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova.
I’m currently listening to the audiobook of Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. The Beatrix Potter Collection Vol. 1 is also on my “currently reading” shelf, but I’m just so not in the mood to read it! The Shadowhunter Chronicles are just so much more fun! I hope to finish these sometime this month, though.
What are you guys reading at the moment!? Any May/June releases you’re excited about?
