I decided to do something about my never ending physical TBR this month, and ended up reading a whole lot of books! I’m finally seeing an ending, so that’s wonderful! I hate having lots of unread books and I couldn’t really afford any new ones, so this month was quite perfect, really! I couldn’t pick up any of my anticipated releases, which is a little sad, but fine. Anyway, let’s have a lot at all the books I’ve read this month!
The Memory Book by Lara Avery
I had to take a little break from reading Empire of Storms and read the Dutch edition of The Memory Book by Lara Avery. I loved the book so much I managed to finish it in only one sitting! It’s so extremely rare that I finish books in one setting and it made me so incredibly happy! I’m really proud of how my review turned out, so be sure to check it out!
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
Holy moly, I’m so glad I got to reread this gem! When I read it for the first time last year, my life had just turned upside down and I was so busy. I couldn’t find the time to review it and honestly, it wouldn’t have been a proper review as I can remember walking to work with my phone in hand, reading the last few pages of the eBook. I was way to distracted to pay the attention I sort of “need” to write a good review. I absolutely loved it, and it sort of dulled the “ache” of not being able to read Tower of Dawn yet, hehe!
Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (Sampler)
I wasn’t sure if I should put this in my wrap up as this was only a sampler with six chapters, but I loved it so much, I just had to mention it! I got this through Netgalley and it was a wonderful first introduction to this book, which will be released in 2018. I’m super excited and cannot wait to read the full book.
The Fire Queen by Emily R. King (ARC)
I got an ARC of The Fire Queen through Netgalley because I’d requested it and then regretted it a little when I was approved. The Hundredth Queen wasn’t as good as I thought it was, but I wanted to give the trilogy another try. I’m SO GLAD that I did! The Fire Queen was so much better and I enjoyed it a whole lot.
Fix Me by Lisa M. Cronkhite (ARC)
The author contacted me about this book through Twitter, and since it was very different from what I usually read, I gave it a go. It wasn’t really my kind of book, I admit, but I did actually quite enjoy it! This one doesn’t release until November 28th, but Netgalley users can request it here. It’s about a girl who’s addicted to a new drug called Fix, and it got really intense and mysterious! For those who are into mysteries, this one is definitely for you!
The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket
I absolute looooove A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix, so earlier this year I listened to the audiobook (which I loved as well). A while ago, me and my mom found a new Dutch edition in a local bookstore and since it was only €10, we picked it up! I wanted a quick and simple read between all the heavy fantasies I was reading, and decided to read it. It was so much fun! I read it in a few hours and I really enjoyed it.
Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton
Seeker was so different from what I expected! I expected something historical, but it was like a present day kind of story?! (If not futuristic!) And I really, really loved it. It defied all my expectations and I actually can’t wait to pick up the next book in the trilogy!
Seeker Review Coming Soon!
A Court of Wings & Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
I got the ACOWAR audiobook on a crazy sale on during my Audible trial (it was less than $5!) and since I really missed listening to audiobooks, I decided to listen to it this month. It’s over 25 hours long so it’s the longest audiobook I ever listened to! I was really intimidated, but I had no reason to! I quite literally flew through this book and I finished it way sooner than I thought. I’d already read the actual book back in May, but I picked up so many new, small details that made me love the book so much more.
ACOWAR Review Coming Soon!
The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket
I was browsing Storytel one day just to see what audiobooks they offered and if there was anything new, when I was offered a month for only 99 cents! Obviously I renewed my subscription and since I had just finished ACOWAR, I wanted something short and easy, so I went for The Reptile Room. I expected a multi-voice audiobook which sound effects and was very disappointed when there was only one narrator… But it was really fun anyway!
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
The cover of this book is so beautiful and I got the eBook during a sale months ago. I had every intention to read it during my summer holiday, but we all know how that went.. hehe! I struggled through the book at first, and then I realised how badly my ‘trusted reviewers’ reviewed the book and got a little worried, but I love it so much! It was so different from other YA books and I can’t wait to share my review.
The Bone Witch Review Coming Soon!
13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough
My mom got the Dutch edition of this book months ago and gave it to me after she read it. it’s different from what I “usually” read so I was quite excited! I’m a little conflicted about my feelings towards this, but it was written really well and it was so shocking and plot twisty!
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
I’ve been wanting to read something by Adam Silvera for the loooooongest time and I’m so glad I decided to listen to this book! I found it on Storytel when I renewed my subscription and just knew it had to be a priority. Woah, woah, woah. This book was incredible and it broke my heart but it was so wonderful!
Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau
I honestly don’t actually remember why I decided to listen to Dividing Eden. It was on my TBR and on Storytel so I thought ‘why not?’ The book was enjoyable and the narrator was really good! Other than that… I’m a tiny little bit let down. Usually, whenever I’ve listen to an audiobook, I want to get a physical copy. With this one, though, that’s not the case at all! I enjoyed it and it was fun, but it’s not really worth it for me.
The Wide Window, The Miserable Mill & The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket
Oh my! I managed to listen to three Series of Unfortunate Events books this month! After reading/listening to all these books, I kind of fell in a slump. Not just reading, but blogging and ‘life’ as well. I barely picked on an actual book, but I did listen to these short (read: 3 hour long) audiobooks! Usually during my ‘morning routine’ and since I listened to them on a faster speed, I’d sometimes be able to listen to them in one go!
I’m currently reading When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon! I absolutely love the book and the only reason I haven’t finished it yet, it because of my slump! Hopefully I’ll be finished with it soon, because I feel like it would really help my get out of this by finishing a book! I’m also listening to The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee and it’s so delightful! Oh my goodness, I love it so much! I started listening to it last night and it’s so well written and funny! And the narrator is British which just makes it perfect.
I read/listened to 15 books and a sample this month and that’s so crazy! I feel as if this month has just last foreeeeever and yet flew by. Quite a few books were really short, so the amount of books makes sense this way. For a while, I’ve also been reading for about 90 minutes each night before going to sleep and my reading speed really amazes me! I hope to continue this in October and finish a lot of books!
What books did you read this month? Did you get a chance to pick up any of the new releases?
