I Am Drowning In My TBR Pile Tag

Contrary to what the title of this post might make you believe, I’m actually not drowning in my TBR pile. Yeah, yeah, okay, I hear your gasps and shocks and… Oh please don’t pass out! My TBR isn’t all that big, not compared to most bookish people in the community, anyway. My TBR is more like a kiddy pool. I’m not very tall, but I wouldn’t drown in there! Anyway, Lara @ Words With Lara tagged me to do this, and I happily oblige!

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?

I think it’s currently mostly eBooks! There’s four unread books on my shelf with some unread Children’s books, but shhh! We don’t mention those! I do have a few more Kindle editions on my iPad, but I haven’t been able to motivate myself to read them. My eyes get so sore from reading from that screen for too long!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

When I really started to work towards “finishing” all the books I owned and wanted to read, I alternated between reading a physical book and an eBook. When I make my monthly TBR, I decide want I want to read and that usually works for me! However, I’m also a bit of a mood reader, so it’s kind of a mix between alternating between editions, my TBR and my mood.

A book that’s been on your TBR longest?

I actually have no idea! I could probably look it up on Goodreads in some way, but it’s quite confusing as I often delete books that I don’t want to read anymore or that I’ve just lost interest in. Plus, I’ve divided my Goodreads TBR in three shelves: the “standard” want to read, my maybe to read and my future releases shelves. If I have a look at my bookshelf, though, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes has probably been on my physical pile the longest.

A book that you recently added to your TBR?

The most recent book I added to Goodreads was Geekerella by Ashley Poston. I got the audiobook from Audible when it was a daily deal, but it wasn’t actually on my TBR when I got it. So, of course, it had to be added!

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

All of them? Hehe… Most of them really are, actually! An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson is on there mainly because I found the beautiful cover on Twitter, but there are a few others like The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli (the Dutch edition is absolutely gorgeous!) and Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading?

I have an entire Goodreads shelf dedicated to books I’ll probably never read, haha! It’s called “Maybe to read” and it’s basically books that I am or have been interested in, but probably never pick up. That’s not because I don’t like them, though! I haven’t bought new books in a really long time and that makes it nearly impossible to both catch up with anticipated releases and buy books that aren’t a priority.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for.

Oh, there are so many! Here’s another Goodreads shelf dedicated to future releases. I can’t actually decided which one I’m most excited about! I think if I had to choose I’d go with The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by V.E. Schwab. It doesn’t even have a cover or release date or a synopsis for that matter yet but I’m beyond excited about this one as it’s apparently a story about a girl who makes a deal with the devil which has lead to everyone forgetting about her. It sounds epic!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you?

Anything by Leigh Bardugo. For the longest time, I just haven’t really been all that interested in the Grisha universe. Then suddenly I was but now I can’t get any of the books! There’s gonna be a boxset of the Shadow and Bone trilogy, though. With the new editions!Β I really can’t wait for it to come out.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you.

There’s actually like… none. I’m a really picky reader, so I will look at what anyone recommends to me, but I’ll probably never look at it again. It’s not you, it’s me. It’s totally you, ha. I feel like everyone loved the Grisha books, though. Should I just go with those?

A book on your TBR that you’re just dying to read.

AN ENCHANTMENT OF RAVENS!!! There’s nothing more to say about this, honestly.

The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf.

This is a book tag, not math class?! But alright, I’ll crunch some numbers for ya’ll…

Goodreads to read shelf* + Future Releases + Maybe to read = 66 Books! + the infinite TBR in my head = MY CALCULATOR EXPLODED!

*Includes my owned books!

So, again: No, I’m not drowning in my TBR. The thing is, I quite literallyΒ “drown” when I have over a hundred books on my TBR that I’m never get to anyway. I mean, I’m behind on getting some books and I’m already thinking of how I’ll never be able to catch up and I get worried because I want them all so bad!

That’s it for the “I’m Drowning In My TBR Pile” Tag! Tagging specific people makes me a bit anxious, so I’ll skip this part. However, if you’d like to do this tag, please feel free to do so and consider yourself tagged!

How many books are on your To Be Read pile?

PS. I’m writing a post on how my TBR is so small in comparison to other bookish people and bloggers! It’ll also feature some Goodreads tips and tricks, like using Exclusive Shelves, so stick around for that!

Interesting blogpost, I really like this kind of tags. That new book of V.E. Schwab sounds absolutely amazing, I really love her books, so I definitely want to read this one too. I also haven’t read the Grisha triology (yet), but I LOVED Six of Crows and Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo. My Goodreads TBR pile is huge. I have 238 books on there, but I always put some books which sounds interesting, but which I probably never going to read. If I like a book, or it sounds interesting, or someone wrote a blogpost about it, I look it up on Goodreads and add it to my tbr-shelf so I won’t forget, but at the end I don’t read it. haha

I’m so glad you liked the post! 😊 I really want to read Six of Crows, but I want to start with the Shadow & Bone trilogy, so I’ll just have to wait, I guess! 238 is so many!! Hahaha πŸ˜… I totally get adding books so you won’t forget, I used to do the same! In the end it just overwhelmed me so I tried doing it another way. πŸ˜‰

    • I’m so glad you liked the post, thank you! 🌸 I totally understand your way of using your TBR! I think I actually used to do the same in the beginning. Some books on my “maybe to read” shelf are actually the kind of books I just added so I wouldn’t forget but now I can’t delete them because I’m still interested πŸ˜‚

  • Oh wow 66 books is not a lot. Really great actually!

    • Ayla

It isn’t! I’m actually kinda proud of myself, hahah! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™ˆ

    • Thank you! It’s definitely not a lot, but more then enough for me, haha! πŸ˜‰

  • 66 books is good! And it sounds like you’re pretty organised with your TBR (I try to be and I have 70 books but somehow it still feels overwhelming). I totally agree that once my TBR goes over 100(ish) it really does feel like you’re drowning!

    • Ayla

I’m probably a little TOO organised, but I like it this way, hehe! I sometimes feel weird about having a small TBR, but it just works best for me. 😊

    • I am waaaayyy too organised with my TBR actually, heheh! 70 books is actually really good as well! It still seems manageable although it’s still quite a lot. I read 80 books so far this year and it’s crazy to think 60/70 books is almost a year (if not more) worth of books! πŸ˜…
