2018 Blog (& Bookish) Goals

I stopped making new year’s resolutions years ago. Instead, I started working towards goals. You might think it’s the same, but it’s honestly not. Resolutions are too vague for me. It’s like “Read more books!” versus “I’m going to read 75 books”, you know what I mean? Anyway, setting goals this year was a bit difficult. Usually I have them all figured out by the end of December, but even yesterday I was still thinking about them! Anyway, I’ve set some blog and bookish goals for myself, and I’d love to share them with you. (So you can kick my put if I start slacking… ha!)

Keep Blogging When I go Back to College

Even though I can’t really do anything about it until the last few months of the year, this one is most important to me. I’ll be applying for college at the end of the month and I’m really hoping to get in! And when I do, I want to keep blogging. In 2016/2017, I went on a nine month hiatus because of college and internship and looking back, I really hated it! I really missed having a creative outlet and doing something for myself, opposed to only working on graduating. I’m prone to not do anything besides college. Like, the semester starts and I drop everything I love because I need to do things “perfectly” in college. I’m so done with that!

Work With Bloggers, Authors & Brands

Isn’t it every bloggers dream to work with other people? I really want to use my blog as a platform to promote the things and people that I love. I don’t just do Fairyloot unboxings to show off what I got or what’s in the box, but to promote this amazing subscription box because I genuinely love it. I talk about the books I love, because I want to you to read them and love them just as I do. I haven’t worked with a lot of people so far, but I’m really hoping that’ll change in 2018.

Participate in Blog Tours

This one might be a little bit like the one mentioned above, but it feels like a separate thing to me. The few biog tour organisers I follow often don’t organise tours that “fit” with my blog and others won’t even get in touch when I contact them, probably because I’m still too small… And then I find out about amazing blog tours when they’ve already started! Ah, it’s like my #1 frustration. I haven’t participated in a blog tour yet, but I really want to be part of one in the future!

Make & Sell my Bookmarks

You may have seen some pictures of my custom made bookmark on Twitter or Instagram. I got this idea last summer and when I tried to make it, it worked out quite well! I’ve been brainstorming for themes and books and other fun little details for a shop and I really want to start a shop this year! I feel like it’ll be “just another bookmark shop” but I haven’t seen any like mine around yet and I think it could work out! It’s a really scary thing because I need more than a MacBook and a Camera to make this work, but I got the first few things ready so as soon as I get some money, I’ll be making more bookmarks!

Make my International Bookworms Meme a Success!

Publishing the page with all the info about the International Bookworms meme was one of the scariest thing I’ve done in a while – and I’ve done a lot of scary things over the past few months. I was terrified no one would care! I’ve heard such good things already, though, I cannot wait to publish the first post and linkup! I really want to keep doing this all year and it would be so cool to have a 100 people participate!

Do More With Instagram

I’ve been very inactive on Bookstagram over the past month or so, but I’m ready to go for it in 2018! I want to post at least one photo every day, use the Stories feature more and like/comment on other people’s photos more! I also really hope to host a challenge sometime and it would be awesome if I could reach 500 followers!

Go to a Bookish Event (and Blog About it!)

I’ve attended quite a few bookish events during my internship, but I never blogged about them! I feel like I’ve wasted so many opportunities to write fun posts about the events I went to. I’m still not sure whether or not I’ll be going to YALFest this year, but if I do I’m definitely writing about it! Most events are too far away for me to actually go to them, but I’m hoping there will be lots of fun events to go to this year and blog about!

Gain More Followers

I honestly hate that I care so muh about numbers and I really hate comparing myself to others, but it happens, I guess. I’ve recently gotten 500 followers on Twitter (Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!) and it feels like I’ve done something impossible! I would be amazing to get more, though, so my goal for 2018 is 750. I originally get my goal at 1K, but that felt way too ambitious, hahah!Β I honestly wish it didn’t matter, but it does. I mean, to get some popular ARCs you need great stats and lots of following… Anyway, I haven’t only thought about my follower count for Twitter and Instagram, I’m hoping to reach a 100 on Bloglovin’ as well.

Host Giveaways

I hosted my first giveaway in May of last year when I had my first blogiversary and it was so much fun! It made me so happy to make someone else happy by giving them a book, if that makes sense! I’d hoped to do another giveaway for my birthday and Christmas last year, but I didn’t have the funds to do so. I think I might do t least one giveaway this year!

Do you have any bookish or blog goals for 2018? Let’s work on them together!

  • I love the goals you set yourself! I’m honestly curious about those bookmarks now, haha.
I feel you on Instagram though. For some reason I love taking pictures and posting them, but it sometimes feel like such a hassle to invest time in. Or more like: I’d rather be reading than trying to take pretty pictures, haha.
When it comes to Yalfest, I wanted to go but now I just read that the authors will be coming to Belgium for an evening as well! I’m thriiilled! πŸ˜€

    • Thank you! I’m most definitely going to work on these bookmarks in the next couple of months, hehe! Instagram is a real hassle, and I’ve already kind of “failed” because I haven’t posted every day, so maybe I should just change that one to a couple days a week… πŸ˜…

I heard about the YALFest authors coming to Belgium as well! I’m actually considering going to that event instead of YALFest itself as Antwerp (I’m guessing it’s in Antwerp?!) it MUCH closer to me than Aalsmeer is, just not sure yet! Waiting for more info before I make a decision! ☺️

      • I’ll have to keep an eye out for those!
I’ve been keeping up on Instagram, which is a freaking miracle – even if I do say so myself. We’ll see how long it lasts.. :’)
I have noooo clue yet where it is?! I just checked but there hasn’t been any new announcement since. I don’t really care where it is, although I’d hate it if it’s going to be Brussels because that one’s just hell to go to by car and I’m no fan of public transport on a Friday night, haha. We’ll have to wait and see! It’s still a while off but I’m hoping we’ll find out more soon.

        • Ooohhh I hadn’t even thought of Brussels yet! I’ll guess we’ll just have to wait and see… Ugh, I’m so easily annoyed by all the vague announcements like just announce something when you have info and don’t announce announcement?! If that makes sense, hahah!

Totally with you on that Instagram thing! Sometimes it’s super easy so keep up with and then other times I’m not checking it at all for like a WEEK…

          • Haha, I get what you mean. Definitely true though! Like, don’t go ahead and make an announcement that leaves us with a hundred questions and no answers whatsoever…

Oh, I check Instagram all the time! It’s just the posting myself that’s easily forgotten.. Or just ignored.. Mostly ignored. :’)

I loved reading about your goals. I think it would be awesome to make and sell your own bookmarks, hopefully you will be able to reach that goal. I also like to read about bookish event, especially ‘smaller’ ones. I am also still in doubt wheter to go to Yallfest or not, haha. I really hope you gain more followers, because you deserve it!

    • Thank you so much! πŸ–€ My bookmark goal definitely feels like the most important one because I’ve been wanting it for so long now! I also really hope to attend some events, although there aren’t many that I’m really interested in, hahah! I hope that if we both go to YALFest we could meet or something, that would be wonderful! 🌸

  • These are some awesome goals! I haven’t set any blogging goals this year although I have a couple of places I’d like to reach when it comes to my blogging stats… I think my main goal is just to continue posting content!!

    • Thank you! Posting more content is a great goal! It doesn’t have to be big and you definitely don’t need a lot of goals of you don’t want to or just don’t know what goals to set. I didn’t know mine until right before writing this post. hahah! πŸ’œ

  • Some great goals Ayla! I don’t think I’m going to Yallfest though so many awesome authors are going to be there. But I think the amount of people will probably be too overwhelming for me. ._.

Getting followers on bloglovin’ is like pulling teeth to be honest..

    • Thank you! The amount of people (most of whom I don’t know) is definitely making me indecisive about going! I was there last year because I was part of the organisation and it was fun but I’d be going alone this year and that would just feel so awkward? 😬

Haha, you’re right about Bloglovin’ actually! To be quite honest, I kind of hate it (it’s quite a shady business) but I’ve gained a lot of followers there over the past month and for lots of people it’s their way to keep up with reading blogs so I’m having hope! It’s not a really important goal to me so if I don’t reach it it’ll be fine. Just wanted to include something about it! πŸ˜‰

  • I am so happy to see the international bloggers goal in there πŸ™‚ wishing you luck! What with all the business with our group and the two others I have, I have missed the start of the meme! But I’m so happy it’s LIVE!!!
And best of luck with your other goals too, of course! Especially the one about keeping it up despite the lack of time πŸ™‚ wishing you something akin to a time turner! πŸ™‚ Have a great year, Ayla, and thanks for being a part of our community <3

    • Thank you so much! Your comment really made my day! πŸ’œ

  • Charley Hrobsky

I’m right there with you about the stats and follower counts. I hate it that I check the numbers WAY TOO often! I can’t wait to see where this year takes you!

    • It’s the worst, right?! I really can’t wait for it either! πŸ˜‰
