Down The TBR Hole

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost In A Story and I honestly wish I’d known about it sooner! Sometime last year – or even the year before that – I suddenly got very overwhelmed by the state of my TBR. It wasn’t manageable anymore and I couldn’t really tell what I actually wanted to read and what I was once interested it. A little while ago I discovered exclusive shelves and that changed my life! But still, I’ll always be working on my ever-changing TBR. That’s why I’ll be going down my TBR hole today!

Here’s how it works:

1. Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
2. Order on ascending date added.
3. Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
4. Read the synopses of the books
5. Decide: keep it or should it go?

Since I have multiple TBRs on Goodreads, I’ll be going through both of them! I’ll have a look at five books on each and think about what I’ll do with them.

Maybe TBR

Rebellion by Kass Morgan. The 100 is one of my favourite shows and even though I really enjoyed the books, I doubt I’ll be picking this up anytime soon? To my surprise, I actually found the synopsis to be super uninteresting! I’m sad to see this one go, but I’m removing it anyway!

A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston. Yeah… No. This one is going. A whole Buch of reviewers I “trust” when it comes to their opinions (or more like, they’re usually similar to mine) have rated this quite badly. Also, it reminds me way too much of The Wrath & The Dawn. That’s not a bad thing at all, since it is a retelling, but it just doesn’t seem to work for me!

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter. Argh! This sounds like the most bizarre book EVER! It’s set in Brooklyn. NYC but then it’s also a retelling of Vasilisa the Beautiful, which is a Russian fairytale and that just makes it sound amazing!? The ratings aren’t all that good, but I’m keeping it anyway! Maybe I’ll listen to the audiobook or get an eBook?

The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana. This one is staying simply because the cover is absolutely beautiful and it feels different from what I usually read! I doubt I’ll be picking it up anytime soon, but I am really interested so maybe I’ll try and pick it up during my summer holiday or something?

Orange: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 by Ichigo Takano. This will probably be on my TBR forever and I still won’t pick it up because I can’t find it anywhere for a reasonable price (ugh, it’s an illustrated manga – why do I complain?!) I am, however, keeping it because I absolutely love mangas and I’ve heard such great things about it!

Want to Read

The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin. In some crazy way, this has been on my TBR since July 2016. Say whaaaat?! That’s probably when I first read the Mara Dyer series, hehe! Anyway, I’m keeping this one since I absolutely loved the Mara Dyer books and to read from Noah’s perspective sounds perfect!

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. AAAAAHHHH I still haven’t read this one! But, obviously, I’m keeping it. Need I say more?

The Traitor’s Kiss by Erin Beaty. This book is just so freaking gorgeous and the synopsis sounds so good! I keep thinking of putting it on my Maybe TBR but them I’m like ‘I reeeeaally want to read this!’ so I’m keeping it!

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Vol. 1 by Akira Himekawa. I could never, ever, ever remove this from my TBR (except for when I’ve finally read it, of course!) Twilight Princess is my all time favourite video game and when the manga series was announced I squealed! Volume three will be released this month and this made me realise how badly I actually need them all! (Obviously, this is staying. Duh.)

The Color Project by Sierra Abrams. Oh, boy. I really love Sierra and her book sounds incredible but the reviews aren’t so great and there’s only so much time in a day or week or month or year and this is – unfortunately – being moved to my Maybe TBR. There’s a huge chance I’ll still pick it up before the end of the year, but it’s not a priority at the moment!

Wrapping It Up

I’m actually quite pleased with my decisions! Eight out of ten books are staying and even though I wished/hoped for fifty/fifty, I’m really happy I managed to (re)move three of them. My TBR now counts seventeen books and my Maybe TBR holds seventeen! That brings us to a total of 34 books on my TBR (excluding future releases.)

I’m probably doing this again in about a month or so, seeing as I really liked doing this and it felt like such an easy way to manage my TBRs! I thought I’d never get rid of anything anymore, but I was wrong and I’m so happy about it. I’m hoping to always keep my TBR below fifty books as it just gets too overwhelming and so far it’s going quite well!

How do you manage your TBR? How many books are on it? Do you ever remove books you’re not interested in anymore? What do you think of my decisions? Let’s chat!
