#BeatTheBacklist 2018 | Update #1

Hey guys! We’re three months (and a few days) into the new year and I thought it would be fun to do an update on the Beat The Backlist Reading Challenge! Although I’m surprised by the amount of 2018 releases I’ve been reading, I’m still reading quite a lot of backlist books and it’s so exciting to finally “catch up” with popular books I hadn’t read before. It’s quite easy to find out what I’ve been up to in terms of reading, but I’ve decided to focus on the backlist books in this post. Happy reading!

My Goals & TBR

Confession: I completely forgot I’d set a goal for myself, hehe! My goal was to read at least 2 backlist books a month and read a total of 25 all over the year. That’s going great so far! We’re three months in and I’ve read 11 backlist books!  I haven’t actually read much from my TBR except for Shadow & Bone and Siege & Storm by Leigh Bardugo, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Most I just picked up on a whim and I’ve been enjoying it a lot!

As for actively participating in this challenge… I’m not doing so well, hehe! I tried my best to add all my reads and reviews to the Story Sorcerers rafflecopter but eventually, I lost track and now I’m clueless about what books I have and haven’t added. Thankfully, there’s a tracking sheet, so I’ve been using that since the end of February and thankfully I can now add things properly! I’m even worse at the Bookstagram challenge! I took one photo and then got in a slump and it’s just been the worst! However, I’m hoping to pick it up again. I’m really excited for the next few months in terms of the challenges and stuff!

Books Read

I read a lot of fun backlist books these past three months! Most were rereads, but I did pick up a few that I hadn’t read before. You can find them all on my Goodreads Challenge Page, but I do want to mention a few that stand out to me.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I got the audiobook on a whim when it was on sale on Audible and even though I’d never been interested, I loved it so much!? Like, I probably won’t be picking up the sequels, but it was such a great (audio)book and I’m glad I decided to get it.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. WOW-WEE! This (audio)book was absolutely incredible?! Just… asdfghjkl I have no words.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I didn’t read all of them yet, but the few I did manage to pick up were so, so wonderful! I can’t believe I didn’t pick them up before… Like, OMG!?

To Be Read

In my signup post, I shared my TBR for the entire year, but in this update, I want to share my TBR for the next few months. Here’s what I’ll (hopefully) be reading sometime soon.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. I got the audiobook when it was on sale a little while ago so obviously, I’ve got to listen to it! I still haven’t read the book and I just really can’t wait to pick it up after I’ve finished listening to Crooked Kingdom!

Vicous by V.E. Schwab. The new edition of Vicious releases at the end of May, so it’s a perfect time to finally pick it up! Technically, the edition I want to get isn’t very backlist, but the actual book/content was released in 2013, so it counts!

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I’d think The Raven Boys was on my TBR back in January, but then I don’t know what happened because I never picked it up and I’m still kind waiting for myself to finally start rereading this… ha! I’m really going to do it this time. Hopefully!

Are you participating in Beat The Backlist? How did these first three months go for you? Ae you excited for the upcoming months?
