April Wrap Up, Current Reads & My May TBR

Since I’ve been busy with things for my blogiversary and work, and my TBR is rather small, I’ve decided to combine my wrap up and TBR this month. I’ve read a lot more than I thought I would in April and now I’m left with only a few unread books on my shelf. I’m so excited to finally finish them! I’m quite the stressed-out reader when I have too many unread books on my shelf, but I’m finally getting on top of things again! Anyway, here’s what I read in April, what I’m currently reading, and what’s on my May TBR!

Here’s what was on my April TBR!

April Wrap Up

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Finally, finally, finally! After all these months, I’ve finished Deathly Hallows. Can you even believe it?! I think I started reading it in January! I got a discount on my Storytel Subscription, so I renewed for a month and I decided to listen to the last few chapters instead of reading them. It feels like I finished it forever ago, but it’s only been less than a month!

PS. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

So, I gotta be honest and say this was a bit disappointing. But maybe that’s because I read it in Dutch and I listened to the first book in English and I LOVED that. Like… Audiobooks can change your experience, guys! I read most of it during my weekend getaway in Germany and I enjoyed it a lot, but I also feel like it could’ve been better.

Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo

This book, guys. THIS. FREAKING. BOOK. It really elevated the entire trilogy. I already loved it, but the Ruin & Rising just made the whole thing so incredible! I’m still like… heartbroken over the end! In the best possible way! I just didn’t want to ever finish it but it did… Ugh, now I’m sad again. Lol!

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Unfortunately, this audiobook was a DNF. I’m still yelling at myself about it because oh my goodness, it was SO GOOD! But the audiobook is just really long, and I completely lost patience. Here’s the thing: I’ve been working a lot, I’ve also been tired a lot. The Storytel app doesn’t show you chapters and the sleep timer was never really set right, so I fell asleep countless of nights and missed chunks of the story. Although I could’ve just pushed through, I always tried to go back and it got so annoying. Eventually, I wasn’t in the mood to listen to audiobooks at all. I decided I would just quit listening and get myself a physical copy once I finish all my unread books.

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

WOW-WEE. This is my new OBSESSION! I did a Waiting on Wednesday post on Ace of Shades and I was part of the blog tour, and it was just so exciting to finally be able to read the book! I fell in love with Enne and Levi, and the city of New Reynes! It gave me sort of urban Caraval vibes and it was the absolute BEST.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

OH. MY. GOODNESS. I kind of picked this up on a whim after my best friend told me to read it (she loved it!) and I was a bit weary about it because Sci-Fi didn’t really feel like my thing and it had been on and off my TBR so many times. My friend convinced me to finally read it and I’m SO GLAD I did! Illuminae is such an epic story told in super original way and I’m obsessed! Basically, I just really want to read Gemina right now, hehe!

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

You all probably know Geekerella is my all-time favourite contemporary, right? (And if you don’t, where have you been?!) I’ve listened to the audiobook twice and I still need to get myself a physical copy but when I found an “ARC” of the paperback edition with bonus content on Netgalley, I couldn’t just not request it?! Thank goodness, I got it! I finally actually read it for the first time and it was just so incredible! Also, I’ve finally scheduled my review and I just cannot wait to share it with you guys.

Current Reads

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

This is a current read (audiobook, actually!) that I put “on hold” because of my Storytel subscription. I’m not sure when I’ll continue because I completely lost patience with the audiobook for Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and I’ve been on an audiobook break ever since. Maybe it’ll be okay when I start listening to Crooked Kingdom through Audible again but I guess I’ll have to wait and see!

The White Rose by Amy Ewing

We’ve finally gotten to the final current read! I brought this with me to Germany but didn’t get to it. I started reading it at home but I was a bit confused since it’s been like a year since I read The Jewel…. I read maybe like two chapters and now it’s just sitting on my shelf, waiting to be picked up again. I’m sorry, book… I’ll get to you eventually!

May TBR

Carrie Pilby by Caren Lissner

One of my favourite movies on Netflix is Carry Pilby. I was watching for like the fourth time a few months ago and I decided to get the eBook on a whim! I still haven’t gotten to it yet, but I hopefully will this month! I’m so close to finishing ALL my owned-but-not-read books and I just can’t wait to finally get to that point!

The Fandom by Anna Day

Another eBook I got on a whim a while ago. I found it on sale and thought “why not?” so now I own it but I’m actually not sure about it anymore! I do want to try and pick it up since I still bought it, but I’m just really hoping it won’t turn into another DNF.

A Court of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

Woah. I haven’t mentioned SJM on here for quite a while! I read/listened to ACOWAR twice and that’s… it. I had to cancel my preorder of Tower of Dawn and I haven’t had the time to listen to the audiobook yet, so basically I haven’t read any SJM book since like forever ago. I’m BEYOND excited for Kingdom of Ash, but I kind of lost interest in ACOFAS. I’m not sure, maybe it’s because the cover disappointed me so much? Anyway, I hadn’t preordered it and had no clue whether or not I’d pick it up at all, but then everyone was so excited on Twitter, and Sarah’s newsletter made me SO excited, I decided to find the cheapest paperback I could find, and ordered it from Wordery! I’m expecting it sometime near the end of next week, and I can’t wait to read it!

A Lite Too Bright by Samuel Miller

I’ve been so excited about this book ever since it was announced (I even did a Waiting on Wednesday post on it!) but I hadn’t preordered it because it’s a contemporary and there’s no (UK) paperback edition, but I caved! This book has been on my mind constantly even though I’ve only seen one other bookish person talk about it and I just wanted it so, so bad! As with Ace of Shades last month, I won’t get it until the end of the month, but that’s fine! That just gives me plenty of time to finish my TBR!

I am SUPER close to finishing all my owned-but-not-read books! If I managed to finish my current reads and TBR, I’ll only have the audiobook of Tower of Dawn left, and my eARC of The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King! If I can manage to pick them up this month, it would be great, but for now, I’m planning on reading them in June.

What did you read in April? And what are you planning on reading in May TBR?
