Oh my, oh my! We’re so close to the release of Legendary! Stephanie Garber’s Caraval is one of my all-time favourite books and I’m so glad we’re getting a sequel. Can we just take a minute to appreciate how beautiful these two covers look, by the way?! WOW-WEE! They’re going to look so good together on my shelves! Anyway, you probably came here for the Waiting on Wednesday post, and not my fangirling, so let’s get on with it!
Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Breaking The Spine.
The Wait Will FINALLY be Over
Oh my goodness, you guys! I’ve been waiting SO LONG for Legendary. Obviously, a lot of us have, but the Dutch edition released in September 2016 and I read it in November/December of that same year and at that point, not a lot of people knew about Caraval. First, I waited for everyone to finally read the book and love it, and then we all waited for Legendary. I’ve been going CRAZY. And I’m so excited, I just really can’t wait!
Like Caraval, Legendary will have secret, hidden covers! They were announced only a few days ago (at the time of writing this post) and although I don’t love them as much as I love the Caraval hidden covers, they’re super pretty anyway and it just adds to the experience of this duology. There are four different tarot cards printed on the naked spines of the first print and I really hope I’ll get lucky again and I’ll get my favourite! (Which is the broken crown, by the way!)
And here they are! 🃏🃏🃏🃏
Can you pick a favourite? (We can't!) 😍

Another Game of Caraval
The most important reason I loved Caraval so much, was the entire mystery behind Caraval. The magic and the incredible weirdness of this game. Which didn’t feel like an actual game to me, but more like an entirely new world. I loved the mystery, the clues, the twists and turns… Since there are even higher stakes in Legendary, it’ll be even more epic!
When it was first announced that Legendary would be told from Tella’s perspective, I was a bit weary. I love Scarlett! I want to see what’s up with her and Julian! Also, I’m just not sure what to think of Tella after the events in Caraval, but I’ve gotten used to the idea now and I’m actually really excited! This time we’ll be following Tella as she plays a game of Caraval and I can’t wait to learn more about her. I do hope we’ll see some of Scarlett and Julian, though!
Legend is literally the most mysterious and epic villain ever. He’s so wicked! I mean, who comes up with a game like Caraval? Legendary will be as much about Legend as it’ll be about Tella (will we get to learn his REAL name?!) and it’s the most exciting thing to happen since I decided to watch The Greatest Showman a while ago.* I mean, it’ll be like an origin story, right?! I’m so curious to see what’ll happen in this dangerous (yet epic) game! And what we’ll learn about Legend, of course…
*The movie with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. Go watch it, I’M OBSESSED! I had to include a reference somewhere, you guys…
A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more – and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets . . . including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about – maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.
Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . the games have only just begun.
Legendary releases May 29th. Will you be reading the book?
