Hi y’all! After my latest posts, I went a bit quiet again. My days consisted of work, re-watching Queer Eye and waiting for my online orders to arrive in the mail… Yay? One package that wasn’t actually an online order – more like a repair – arrived today and it was my monitor! I could’ve blogged perfectly fine on my MacBook alone (and I actually did!) but just having this thing on my desk and having cleaned up my room has helped me so much to get back into being productive. I WANT to sit at my desk and working. Plus, the heat has toned it down a liiiittle bit, which makes me feel a lot better, to say the least. Anyway, here’s my wrap up, TBR, personal update & more!
July Wrap Up
The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross. I finished TQR on the first day of the month, but since I haven’t done a wrap up last month, I’m counting it for this one! (Since I probably read most of it in June, hehe.) I actually loved it so much! It’s an amazing story with lovely characters and a great plot. I loved the plot twists, too!
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. I have to be truthful here and say I didn’t love it as much as I loved Uprooted, but it was still so incredibly wonderful! Unfortunately, I lost my notes of the first 60-something % of the book, so I won’t be writing a review at this time. I just doesn’t feel right!
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. AHH! I finally started my Raven Cycle reread! It’ll probably be a hundred years before I continue, but it was so exciting to read this one again during my summer holiday in Germany.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Victoria is one of my favourite authors, I’ve had Vengeful on preorder for a while now so that meant I just HAD to read Vicious. Guess what? I finally did! It was super different from Shades of Magic and Monsters of Verity but the book read like a movie and it was FANTASTIC?! I feel like it’s unlike anything I’d ever read before I loved it very, very much.
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody. I loved Ace of Shades and I’d been wanting to pick of DotBC for ages! Since I was on such a nice streak with my reading while I was away, I decided to get the Kindle edition. I’m honestly not sure what to think of it. I liked it so, so much but at the same time I was a bit confused and guess I just thought it’d be more like Ace of Shades? Anyway, I enjoyed this one, but I’m not sure I’d buy myself a physical copy if you know what I mean.
Roseblood by A.G. Howard. I DNFed this one at 18% because I had high expectations and they weren’t even met halfway-ish. I guess the whole boarding school thing and the fact that the Phantom of the Opera musical/book was actually mentioned as a thing in this world just didn’t work for me.
Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. I loved Illuminae and since I was super disappointed by Roseblood, I wanted to pick up something I knew I’d enjoy. Gemina was super cheap on Kindle and I’m so glad I bought it! I guess I still prefer to read this series in physical format, but there was something about reading all these “files” on my iPad which made it super fun.
Everless by Sara Holland. I read like a maniac on holiday, you guys! I can’t believe I’m adding another book to the list, hehe. I’d listened to the audiobook of Everless at the start of this year and got myself the Kindle edition a while later because it was cheap and I just wanted to be able to actually read it one day. I think I finished this one in a day, which hadn’t happened in absolutely ages! It’s such a great book and I can’t wait for the sequel.
Because You Love To Hate Me by Amerii. This is a collection of short stories by authors and Booktubers about villains and honestly, I was so disappointed. I guess you could say it’s a DNF since I skipped and skimmed through A LOT and then stopped reading after Victoria Schwab’s story because that’s the main reason I read it in the first place. I did add it to my “read” shelf instead of my DNF shelf, but I’m still a bit sad about it anyway. I guess short stories just don’t do it for me.
A Lite Too Bright by Samuel Miller. Oh my gosh, you guys! Y’all know how much I’ve been gushing about this book and you’ll probably be at least a little shocked I had to DNF it. Not because I didn’t like it, though! I started listening to the book on Scribd and I hadn’t listened (fast) enough to be able to finish it. I also feel like it’s not the “right” book to be read through audio if that makes sense? I’ll definitely pick up a copy to read because I was around 60% and it was amazing!
Blogging & Life Update
Not a lot has happened when it comes to the blog, but I did publish one post which was a big deal for me. Blogging and book just haven’t been “the same” for me for a while now. I mentioned earlier how I feel better now, and I do! But for the longest time, I felt like I’d just lost my passion for books and blogging. I couldn’t care less about it. I mean, how could I go to both Waterstones AND The American Book Center and not buy books?! Well, it happened… I just didn’t know what to get, couldn’t find what I really wanted and didn’t want to buy stuff I’d already read. I thought I’d be able to blog about my purchases at these shops, but since I didn’t buy anything, that’s quite a difficult thing to do! Luckily, there are some other things that have come on my path, and I cannot wait to blog about them!
As for the “life stuff”… I’m accepted into the college I want to attend! I’m officially a Communications student starting September 3rd. YAY! I’ve been buying college supplies like crazy and I’m just so excited! Also, my contract at work is renewed with a full year and I couldn’t be happier! Obviously, I’ll be working less as I’m also attending college, but I feel like I’ve finally kind of found my place at work and I don’t hate having to work a lot, because I enjoy what I do. These next few months are going to be so crazy, but I’m ready!
Overall, my life has been a bit weird lately. So many great things are happening, but I feel so indifferent about them. Like, I wanted to blog, but it just hasn’t happened. I’ve been wanting to go to the gym for a while and I almost signed up, but then I didn’t and now I couldn’t care less. It’s not like I don’t want to go anymore, but I don’t feel like it at all right now. There’s one thing I DO care about and love with all my heart, and that’s Queer Eye on Netflix. I’m way too obsessed with that show and oh my goodness, it makes me SO HAPPY. I honestly feel like it helped me get out of this depressing mood as well. I started watching the entire series again right after I finished season two. I watched two episodes of Designated Surviver and they were so “heavy” that I needed something happy and decided just to watch it all again. Maybe I should find some more happy shows? Hehe!
Waaayyy back in June, I preordered Vengeful by V.E. Schwab ad Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas because both hardcovers were super cheap on Amazon and I decided to get them before their prices go up! (Seriously, they’ve already gone up a little bit since I ordered, whaaaat?!) Other than that, I did really well! I’d be totally okay with ordeing more books since I’ve finished everything I own, but I don’t want to go too crazy.
I read a lot on my holiday because of my free trial subscription on Scribd, but I also got some Kindle book. First, I got Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody and a few days later I got Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. Other than that, I didn’t get any physical books during my holiday or my trip to Amsterdam. Actually… That’s not entirely true. I got myself the “Mutinous Pirates” Fairyloot box! I’m 99% sure about the book that’s going to be in it and I really can’t wait for it!
I wasn’t planning on getting any other books, but I the last book I got this month was Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas! I was so upset about still not owning a physical copy since I had to cancel my preorder a year ago. I did listen to the audiobook, but my Throne of Glass shelf looked a bit empty without ToD on there. I’ve decided to reread the entire series again in preparation of Kingdom of Ash and I’m BEYOND excited. I was originally only going to reread Empire of Storms and ToD, but I have enough to time to read them all!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I think this will be my fourth time reading Throne of Glass! To be honest, I didn’t have a single book on my TBR for August and I’m a mess without somewhat of a planning on what I’ll read, so I’m excited! ToG is my all time favourite series and it’ll be my third year in a row rereading the entire series!
The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas. Eeekkk! Help! I’m actually not sure about the order in which I should read these first two books. I think the “official” Bloomsbury read-along thing started with TAB and that sounds like a great idea, but I just really want to read ToG! And I need background stuff from one of the short stories for Tower of Dawn. Like, can I make it any more difficult?! Oh boy, this is going to be GREAT.
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. I want to finish the first three books in July, so I can read the next two in September and the final two in October. I won’t be getting my copy of Kingdom of Ash till the start of November so I feel like it’d just make sense to plan it out this way!
The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King. I fear I might never get to this book because I got an ARC through Netgalley ages ago, I left it for July/August so it’d be closer to release date and unfortunately, I’ve lost interest! I guess you could say I regret requesting it. I do want to review it, but I might leave it for a later time.
